"This handmade boutique pedal truly adds a new dimension to your sound. Very easy to operate with only one knob, the effect always seems to be mixed just right. A true bypass pedal, not noisy at all. You can nail that rotary speaker sound or an amazing chorus effect. The more clockwise you turn it, the faster the rate, almost flange like. This is one of the best analogue sounding phasers out there" (Thanks to Morayfield Music)

Phaser review by Adrian Reeves

Although primarily a keyboard player I’ve recently been delving into the world of guitars and effects. While I was happy with my small collection of phasers, I still hadn’t got the classic MXR Phase 90 sound. Having bought and been very happy with the Morrison Tube Squealer and Booster I jumped at the chance to try the Morrison Phaser, Paul’s take on the Phase 90. I wasn’t disappointed.

The first thing that struck me was the cleanness of the Morrison Phaser. It handles overdrive and the hotter output of my keyboards very well. As far as sound goes, I’d describe it as a watery warmth, as opposed to the ‘chewiness’ of the Boss or a Small Stone. It also preserves your tone well and doesn’t have a volume drop or boost.

To my ears the effect becomes more pronounced as the rate is increased, which is something most phasers seem to have in common. The rate increase is well regulated, unlike some effects where the usable speeds only exist in a small range of the dial. At the slower speeds there’s a slightly asymmetrical wobble that I find quite hypnotic, almost like a Univibe. The faster speeds are more like a Leslie sound, although admittedly not as complex, and are particularly good with a bit of overdrive.

I’m really pleased to have found an phaser that is equally effective with my G&L Asat and my Nord Electro. I’m looking forward to seeing what Paul comes up with next.
